Our Code of Conduct sets out ten commitments.
When put into practice, it will reduce the superyacht industry’s environmental footprint and help restore the oceans we depend on.
Decade of Sustainability
When we launched the industry’s first Code of Conduct, we marked the moment as the ‘Decade of Sustainability in Yachting’. Made up of ten commitments, it sets out the rules and responsibilities that, when put into daily practice, will make a real and measurable difference.
We’re stronger together, but individually, we each have the power to make a difference. That’s why our Code of Conduct affirms the collective approach whilst also setting out the influence and responsibility that each person holds.
Our Commitment
1. We recognise our strategic position and use it to drive change.
The superyacht industry serves extraordinarily influential clients who can make a real difference. Like Formula 1 to the car industry, each new build and every refit is an opportunity to pioneer technology that pushes boundaries and finds its way to broader maritime industries.
2. We are determined to protect the oceans, leaving them in better shape than we found them.
Oceans absorb 30% of atmospheric CO₂, but rising CO₂ levels are increasing ocean acidity and threatening marine life. We must act now for the future of our industry, and for life on Earth.
3. We respect the oceans as a crucial stakeholder.
We sail the world’s oceans to enjoy the beauty of nature. Without healthy oceans, there is no yachting. The superyacht industry is uniquely dependent on ocean health, and it’s time we became true stewards of these life-supporting systems.
4. We commit to sustainable consumption and impact-free production.
Harming nature is directly at odds with what drives our industry. Luxury should never come at the cost of the environment, endangered species, or local communities. We are responsible for managing natural resources wisely, for present and future generations.
5. Each person and organisation takes individual responsibility for driving positive change.
We all have more influence than we think, whether improving what’s within our own reach or inspiring others to do the same.
6. We actively propose sustainable solutions to clients and demand them from suppliers.
Every link in the supply chain shapes those that follow. The choices we offer clients and the standards we set for suppliers create a snowball effect, making the entire industry more sustainable.
7. We support Water Revolution Foundation and its tools for driving industry-wide sustainability.
Reducing our environmental footprint requires collaboration. Water Revolution Foundation provides the platform, tools, and standards to move the industry forward, together, and in the same direction.
8. We share knowledge openly, because our future depends on it.
There is no plan B for the planet, nor for the superyacht industry. Niche market or not, we have a responsibility to use our position wisely. Sharing knowledge accelerates progress, and together, we can achieve more, faster.
9. We embrace the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The world is waking up to the consequences of unsustainable resource use. The superyacht industry must align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and play its part in coordinated global action.
10. We are committed to ensuring everyone in this industry can join the Revolution.
Sustainability is not a competition, it is a shared responsibility. To future-proof our industry, we must work together, leaving no one behind.
